Mile-High Apple Pie
Mesa Ranch
Austin, TX
This hefty slab of apple pie has history. Many years ago, a grandma from Burnet, Texas--Tootie was her name--used to love to make a pie so huge, it weighed five pounds on completion. Flash forward to the current day in San Antonio, where Tootie's granddaughter has resurrected the family recipe and sells these honkin' pies to restaurants that include Austin's Mesa Ranch, where they sell the pie toasty and hot in an iron skillet--a la mode, if you like. A flaky, golden crust and sweetly spiced apples make this pie divine.
