I have to be honest; I bought this dessert solely because I thought it’d photograph well. And since no one in this little Mexican bakery off Buford Hwy spoke English, I figured “screw asking, lets just try it.” This muffin-pastry hybrid (?) looks as if a thin, filo-style dough strip had been wrapped around a corn muffin. And surprise! That’s exactly what it was! The pastry ribbon was airy, sweet and sugarcoated and was attached to the hip of a gently sweet corn muffin. The texture combo gives you light pastry one bite and dense cornbread the next. It’s slightly sweet but not overbearing. Our verdict: weird, but worth a shot.
